Like a deja vu

Imagine yourself in a calm comfortable place. With sweet music in the background and the sweet aroma of your favourite perfume. Your heart is beating just right and you can almost not feel your body. You open your eyes and see that person smiling at you. That special person, holding your hand. You know you are in the right place with the right person.

Then all of a sudden the floor opens and you fall fast and hard to a place you don't know. You land on your arm. You feel the pain immediately and cry out. You turn to look for your partner and they are standing up above looking at you alone in the hole. This person you could have sworn was an angel laughs at you and throws dust at you, then walks away. You call out to them, they are all you know but they don't come back. After crying your eyes out, you get up and try to get out of the hole. You slip a couple of times but finally get out of the hole.

Now you can hear the music and smell the sweet aroma again. Then after some steps an amazing person comes from nowhere. They make you feel calm and right. Your new angel comes up to you, smiles and holds out their hand for yours. You look at them and smile. Your heart is home but your head just can't help but think this is a deja vu.

Super September!

Ok so next month is September! I'm excited because it's my birthday month. I also want to give the month a theme for my stories. Just like February Frenzy and June Force, I want something interesting and unique. You see the thing is, I have no idea what theme to choose. I've been unsure for a while now and it hit me. You read my blog right?(well you are doing it now lol) so why don't we do this together? I was considering going crazy with historical events. Sounds boring eh? lol that's why I added the going crazy. Ok there's also fantasy stories oh and let's not forget our very own horror stories...hehehe. You see what I mean eh? Anyways, leave a comment and let me know what you would like because me dierr my mind dey. lol

Summer date 3

Please don’t tell me this guy has feelings for Betty. If he did it wouldn’t just be his leg that would be broken. I walked to my computer and continued my aunt’s work. She came up to me to see how far I had gotten. Then she started asking me about the reason Bet and I weren’t talking. I told her the whole story and she laughed. She felt we were being very childish. I hoped so too.

Just like magic Betty and I started talking again. She needed someone to tell about the concert and I seemed to be the only one she could rub it in nicely to. I listened to her eagerly as she told me her story. As she was talking all I could think about was Darren and why he liked her. Maybe I was a little envious of her. Betty and I had been tight since I can remember. She always made stupid decisions with boys but somehow the guys keep coming. There was one time where she cheated on this guy and dumped him. He came to me and told me to talk to her and that he was sorry. Sorry for what, catching her with another guy?! I was so furious. There was something about Darren I admired and didn’t want this temptress to play around with him too. “Do you think Darren likes you?” I asked out of the blue. She dropped her slice of pizza and turned to me. “Huh, where from that one too? I hope not.” She said and turned on the TV. I nodded and asked her to tell me more. She went on with her story like nothing ever happened. That was when I knew he didn’t have a chance.

The next day Betty convinced me to go out with her and Kenny. They were going to a party and Bet’s plan was for me to meet another ‘date’. I agreed not because of Darren’s condition but because he obviously liked Bet and not me. Not that it mattered but it was a bit annoying. I didn’t regret that. There were lots of interesting people at the party. The only odd thing was the excessive drinking. I mean excessive! I could tell Bet was tipsy when she started singing out loud. “Easy with the drinking, Bet.” I whispered to her. I wanted some fresh air so I went outside. The party was at Kenny’s friend, William’s house. I stood outside alone for about 5 minutes and turned around when I started feeling cold. “Hey.” I heard from behind me. It was Darren. “Hi, I didn’t know you would be here.” I said smiling. “Yea, decided to forget about the Doctor a bit. What are you doing outside?” He said and slowly moved to me. He had his clutch. “The chaos in there was a bit much so I just came for some air.” I teased. “Oh, don’t tell me they are doing the drink drill and playing truth or dare.” He replied. I paused. “How did you know?” I asked. He smiled. “William is my pal too.” He replied. I nodded.

We went back inside and I went to get Darren a drink. When I got back I saw him chatting with Betty. She was giggling and holding his hand. I stopped and turned around. I put the drink back on the table and walked hurriedly to the bathroom. Kenny met me halfway. “Hey, Darren is here, you seen him?” He said. I nodded and walked off rudely. I wasn’t very happy at that very moment. I spent the last 30 minutes in the bathroom. Just sitting there, doing nothing. Then Betty called me. I ignored it. When I got out of the bathroom I looked around and didn’t find a familiar face. They were all gone! This was just perfect, first they bring me here, ignore me and leave without me. I was just about to explode when I opened the door and saw them all standing outside. “Hey I was calling you.” Bet said when she noticed me. “Are we leaving? Good.” I said. I couldn’t even fake a smile. “Hey, you ok?” Darren asked. “Do I look sick? I’m fine.” I said and walked to the car park. They just followed me. Betty ran after me. “Alima, what’s the matter. Did anyone say something to you?” She asked. I stopped and turned to her. “I want to go home. That’s all.” I shot at her. The car was so quiet on the way back. The trip back didn’t take very long. When we got to our destination I gave a quick wave and smile and rushed off. Betty whispered something to the boys and they left. She rushed after me again.

“Ali, tell me what’s going on.” She said. I stopped when we got to the door. Betty had the keys. She looked at me one more time and opened the door. I got inside without saying a word. She caught my hand and said. “I know something is wrong. What is it?” I couldn’t take it anymore. “It’s you. You are just selfish!” I blurted out. Betty opened her mouth in shock. “You kept saying all those awful things about Darren and you were flirting with him at the party. Why are you like that?” I asked. She obviously didn’t see this coming. “My goodness Alima is that why you are acting like this? You are the very one who said I don’t treat him fairly so I was doing that for you and this is what I get?” She explained. I looked down. She was right I was acting a little too strange. Then she noticed, “Oh no, Alima you have fallen for him.” She whispered.

Justin's surprise 2

We stopped in front of the Grand Mirage Hotel. “Come on.” Justin said and opened the door. I stood outside just staring at the building while he and the taxi driver got our luggage out. “Marie could you pay the taxi driver? I don’t have any lose change.” Justin said. I nodded and paid him. It was after we checked in and were escorted to our room that I could speak again. “The remotes are in the left drawer and if you need anything just dial 100 on the intercom.” The valet said to me and left. The room was amazing. The bed was huge, the décor was like a delicious dessert. I couldn’t wait to see the bathroom. It was just as I imagined it, adorable. Justin put our bags in a corner and sat on the bed. “Jus, I know this is really cool and all but really what are we celebrating?” I asked, touching the orange bedside lamp. “You are so strange. You always say I’m not romantic. Now that I’m being romantic too you are complaining.” He responded. “Oh no, I’m not complaining oh.” I said and jumped onto the bed. “We thank God I will be done with my Master’s soon. Please save some of this till after June ok?” I teased.

I woke up in the middle of the night. I guess the unfamiliar environment (extremely comfortable bed, silk sheets and slit air conditioner) was the reason. I admired the room one more time and turned to look at Justin who was fast asleep. I was so grateful he didn’t snore or drool among other things lol. He was sleeping soundly. I couldn’t help believe how far we had come. We had been going out for just a bit over a year but it felt like 10 years. I remember how I used to complain to him because he put his work first all the time. There was a time we almost broke up because he just didn’t have time for me and it wasn’t that he had to work oh. He was doing his own voluntary overtime with no allowances. Justin was always far from romantic. His idea of a date was to stay indoors and talk or play video games…with his friends! But besides that and a few incidents were he totally ignored me, he was a good guy. He always makes an effort to change.

I opened my eyes because I heard a knock at the door. I turned to the side and Justin wasn’t there. I could hear some water running. I got off the bed and walked to the door. There was a waiter with a huge tray of food. He brought it inside and put it on the table. I smiled at him (that was my tip) and he left the room. Breakfast was massive! “Justin breakfast is here and it’s huge!” I yelled. “Wow, I can’t wait.” he said and he came out of the bathroom. We spent the whole morning having breakfast in bed and watching a movie.

“Don’t you have to go to work?” I asked, looking at the time. “Work, who said I came here to work?” Justin asked. He looked like her wasn’t joking. This was even stranger. I turned to look at him immediately. He took a deep breath and sat up, took my hand, looked straight into my eyes and said. “Marie, a lot has happened in the last couple of days and it made me realize that you deserved better. I haven’t treated you very well in the past.” “Oh Justin, I understand. Your job is stressful and everything we went through was to make us stronger so marriage won’t be that hard.” I cut in. His expression changed and I realized I mentioned the ‘M’ word. “Oops, sorry, I know I said I won’t talk about marriage right now.” I said and giggled. He pulled me closer to him. “It’s ok. I just want us to enjoy the moments we spend together.” He whispered and kissed my forehead.
In no time we both fell asleep.

It was like the hotel put Valium in our food. Maybe it wasn’t the hotels fault; we were the ones who overeat. When I opened my eyes I noticed Justin wasn’t there. I got off the bed and realized he wasn’t in the bathroom either. I picked up my phone to call him. “Hey Marie didn’t you see my note? I left one on the table telling you that I was at the pool.” He said. My eyes lit up immediately. “The pool opens at night? Aww I wish I brought my swim suit.” I said jealously. I drew the curtains and took a look at the pool. I saw Justin sitting on the side of the pool and he was alone too! I was so jealous. “Oh the hotel hasn’t been to the room yet? I ordered a swim suit for you. Maybe they brought it when you were sleeping and took it back. Call the reception and tell them you want a swim suit delivered to your room.” Justin said. “For real?” I asked, tempted to hop around. “Yea, for real. I’ll be waiting for you. Hurry up. They might close soon.” He said and hang up. I dashed to the hotel room phone and made my order. In no time the swim suit was in with a towel too. It was so hot. I knew Justin picked that particular one!

“Hi fishy!” I teased when I got to the pool. The water was so warm and nice. I hadn’t swum in months so this was so soothing. “Hey, I don’t know what happened to make you become so romantic but I like it!” I said from across the pool. Then it occurred to me, maybe he did something terrible. Maybe he was trying to satisfy his own guilty conscience. My peaceful mind was troubled instantly. “Justin we should be getting back. I’m beginning to feel cold.” I lied. He nodded and we went back to the room. I wanted to talk to him and clear things out. I waited till we both had our showers and were cozy in bed again, eagerly waiting for dinner. “Justin, about what you said earlier, could you explain it further?” I asked. He was busy changing the channel on the TV. “Huh?” He muttered absentmindedly. “What happened in the past couple of days to make you want me so much now?” I blurted out. I should have said it another way but it already slipped out of my mouth. Justin dropped the remote and turned to me like I had committed a crime. “Why, I’m here aren’t I?” He said and looked away quickly. If there was anything I knew about Justin, it was his honesty. It was clear he was hiding something very scary.

Alice 8

The way Alice ate peacefully it was hard to talk to her but I knew this was the best time. “Alice, why were you and your auntie leaving?” I asked. She kept eating her rice and pushing away the vegetables like any normal child. Then she stopped, held the glass of water and said, “Auntie told me we were going to Disneyland. Is she coming here to pick me up?” I didn’t know what to say. She was smiling so happily.

Just when I opened my mouth to talk, she went on, “Teacher, you can also come with us.” I smiled back and nodded. “Ermm, Alice, what you did today and at the school. Who taught you how to do that?” I mastered courage to ask. “Nobody taught me. I learnt it myself. Auntie says I should not do it again. Don’t tell her ok?” She said and giggled. This was very hard for me.

Rodney rushed down the stairs talking on the phone. “Good news Reeny.” He said with a smile. I stood up and walked to him. “Agent Mills called me. They have found someone who knows Alice. Apparently her auntie’s husband was to come and pick them up to Namibia.” He explained. I was relieved. I hadn’t been in so long. Rodney turned to look at Alice who had almost finished all her food. “He wants her in Police custody until he picks her up tomorrow. I’ll drive.” He said. “So soon, I mean can’t she spend the night here. She’s scared.” I replied. “No, Doreen. She is not our child so we can’t keep her here.” He answered. “I’m not saying that. It’s just that she has been through a lot.” I added. Rodney put his hand on his forehead. “Come on, look at her. Does she look scared to you? If what you said is right there are armed men looking for her right now. You think this place is safe?!” Rodney said raising his temper. He was right, I knew it but I just didn’t want to let Alice go.

We got to the Police station with Alice in the backseat. We saw Agent Mills at the parking lot. He was taking some stuff out of his car. “Hi Doreen it’s been a while. You look nice.” He said. I smiled nodded. “Ah, that is the little girl right? Her Auntie’s husband is in there.” He said. I opened the door and got out of the car. “Have you found the body of her Auntie yet?” I whispered to him. He looked at me confused. “I don’t think she is dead. Nothing suggests that. There is not even a sign of a blood wound. Rodney got out of the car too. He came and dragged me away. “Doreen, don’t make a scene. I didn’t tell him you were there. Nobody will believe your story ok?” he whispered, holding my face. I nodded and we went back to Agent Mills. “Is everything ok?” He asked. I opened my mouth but just like always Rodney covered me. “No, Doreen is just worried because the girl was in her school. You know how my wife worries.” He said and giggled. Agent Mills seemed convinced because his expression changed immediately and he smiled at me. Naturally I smiled back. Then from nowhere we heard the scream of a little girl. We all turned around and noticed Alice was gone!

We all rushed to the sound of her voice. It came from the other side of the car park. Agent Mills took the lead with his gun in hand. We heard sounds from behind one of the Police patrol cars. We rushed there and saw Alice at the back of the open car playing with the Police dogs. She was laughing and the dog was wagging its tail. Agent Mills put his gun back. I smiled as we watched her. “How did she do that?” Agent Mr. Mills asked, still staring at her. Rodney and I were not really surprised. I mean, we had seen her in real ‘action’ before. I held Alice's hand firmly as we walked into the Police Station. She waved at the dogs as we left and they made a friendly howl.

My challenge!

Last week a friend of mine sent me a link to a certain blog. It's called 'as told my nono' I think. He wanted me to take part in a little challenge. The blog provided a paragraph which was to be the concluding paragraph of a story. I read the paragraph and noticed it was a Nigerian blog, hence the 'big english' lol. It seemed interesting so I took it up. This is the ending paragraph.

…….Out of breath; she burst into her bedroom. Her chest heaving. Up. Down. Up. Down. Her left hand held on tightly to the gash higher up on her right arm. It was 5:00p.m. Was she too late? She lowered herself to the floor, pursing her lips, bearing the pain. She stretched out her bloody hand to pull out the metal box. It was out. She gently opened it.
It was empty. What? Empty?
Her lips stretched into an unbelieving, cynical smile even as tears fell from her eyes.

I know what you are thinking! LOL but this is my story :)

“Mrs. Owusu I will make sure I finish it when…” She assured but Mrs. Owusu had hang up the phone. Her boss didn’t care that she was one of the most underpaid people in the company. She worked her to the bone and beyond. She was finally home. She opened the small wooden gate and walked in. Just when she tried to open the door to the house her phone fell and pieces flew everywhere. “Oh no, no please don’t be broken.” Karen said putting the pieces together. She turn it on but it appeared the screen was broken. She swore as she entered the living room.

“Hey, why are you home so late?!” Her fathered demanded. He was sitting down with a bottle of whiskey rolling at his feet. “I’m not late. It’s not even five yet” She shrugged. “Your foolish sister has not come home yet either. What the hell do you want me to eat eh?!” He thundered and stood up. Karen was heading for the kitchen when he grabbed her hand. “I’m sure Anita just stayed out to study for her exams.” She said to cover her little sister. “Nonsense!” He screamed and slapped her. Karen held her cheek and staggered. She fought the tears. He went closer to her and hit her even harder on her back. Karen fell down this time. She couldn’t take the pain. Then this time her father kicked her in the stomach yelled “you and your sister should have died in that accident along with your mother!”

Almost like a miracle the pain disappeared and Karen stood up bleeding in her nose and holding the empty bottle. This had to stop and it had to stop now! “I’m sure God made a mistake. You are the one who should have died!” she screamed. She hit the bottle on the wall and charged at him with the broken head. This caught him by shock and he couldn’t move fast enough to swerve. She stabbed him right in the chest. He gathered enough strength to push her back and she fell right into the other broken pieces with one large piece piercing right through her arm. She cried out in pain and turned to look at her father. He had fallen to his knees. The blood had soaked his shirt. Then she finally fell face flat to the ground. Then Karen started to think. She had to get out of the house but where could she run to? Then she remembered; she and Anita had planned to run away several years ago to an uncompleted house their mother was building before she died. They had both saved some money. She had to grab the money and leave the house before the Police got there or even her father’s drinking mates!

Alice 7

I got out of the car and took a deep breath. I walked to the house and knocked on the door. The door opened and I saw Alice smiling at me. “Teacher!” She yelled and hugged me. I smiled back at her and looked around. I noticed a lot of things were wrapped in newspaper and there were two suitcases close to the door. “Al, where are you?” Her Auntie called. She rushed to the door and when she realized it was me she calmed down. “What have I told you about answering the door? Go to your room!” She ordered sternly. Alice looked down and run off. “Hi, I’m sorry to come here unannounced but…” I started but she gave me a hard stare, then she looked around and signaled that I come in. I walked inside and she led me to the kitchen. I sat down on one of the dining chairs. I honestly didn’t think she was going to offer me a meal. “Who sent you?” She asked. She noticed my confused face and added. “What do you want?” “I know you are leaving because of what I said but you shouldn’t. What I saw wasn’t real. It was a product of stress.” I explained and smiled but she didn’t smile back. That was when I realized something was terribly wrong.

She clearly didn’t want me there so I was just about to leave when I heard a knock at the door. Alice rushed down the stairs but when she saw her Auntie head for the door she froze. She turned around to run back and saw me. Then she sneaked to me. “Teacher, am I coming to school tomorrow?” She whispered to me. “Maybe if you are a very good girl you will.” I whispered back for no good reason. She giggled. Then I got up. “I have to…” I started but my sentence was cut short by the sound of someone fall to the ground.
I turned to the door sharply and from the reflection on a flower vase I saw Alice’s Auntie on the floor with a bullet right through her head! This didn’t seem real at all. There was a man in a black t-shirt with a gun; a silencer. He stepped over her and looked around. I grabbed Alice who clearly didn’t know what had happened. “Where is the back door?” I whispered. “It’s that way!” Alice said aloud with a wide smile. I turned to look at the vase and noticed the man was coming our way with his gun well aimed. I dragged her along as we rushed to the back door. The man was clearly faster than us and fired. The sound of shattering glass passed through my ears like it was right next to me. His aim was almost perfect. The bullet just missed me by seconds. I hit the door open breaking the trap door in the process and we both fell onto the backyard lawn. I got up as fast as I could and pulled Alice up. The man fired again and this time I wasn’t so lucky. The bullet brushed over my shoulder oozing blood all over. “Ahh!” I called out it pain. “Teacher!” Alice cried. She raised her hands and I carried her. Then I heard voices from the neighbours. I didn’t stop moving though. I knew if I slowed down any further we would die. I could see my car from where we were. When we got to the road I looked back and the man was gone. I paused for a second confused until I felt Alice’s hands around my shoulders and rushed to the car. I fidgeted with the keys but finally got the door open. I tossed Alice into the passenger seat and drove off as fast as I could. When I reached to change the gear I noticed the bullet wound on my shoulder was gone. I turned to look at Alice and she winked at me.

“Rodney, oh I’m so glad it’s you.” I said hugging my husband tight. “Reeny what were you saying? I couldn’t make sense of a thing you were saying. Are you ok? Calm down.” He said, holding my hands together and leading me to the sofa. “Is she dead? Did the police catch the man?” I said. Rodney took a deep breath and put his hand on my shoulder. “Mr. Mills called me. He said there was no dead body in the house, no sign of forced entry and no man in a black t-shirt.” He replied. My heart missed a beat. “No it’s not possible unless he took the body when we left. Yes that’s why he stopped chasing us. Wait. The shattered glass. He shot a glass.” I said to defend myself. “There was no sign of a struggle either. You said they shot you. Where is the wound?” he asked. I pointed to my shoulder that was clean with not even a scar. “He shot me here but Alice healed it.” I said slowly. Rodney stared at me for a while and stood up. “I, I’m going to call your shrink.” He stammered.

“Rodney I’m not crazy. I know it sounds absurd but it all happened. You can ask Alice. Let me just call her for you.” I said with tears in my eyes. “What, you brought her here?” Rodney said pacing up and down. “Are you out of your mind? You must be to steal someone’s child!” He yelled. “I didn’t steal her. The man was going to kill her too if I left her behind.” I said and stood up to him. “Oh my God, this finally makes sense. You wanted the girl so you stole her from the house and made it look like there was a man, killing people. Her Auntie is probably out there looking for her. The doctor was right you are obsessed with having a child.” He accused. He grabbed his phone. “I’m calling Mr. Dawson and taking you in for more treatment now before you get yourself into more trouble.” He said and scrolled through his numbers. “How dare you Rodney?! I’m not going anywhere!” I said and folded my arms. “Hello, yes I need an ambulance for my wife…” He started. I reached for the phone but he held me back. All of a sudden the floor started to shake. Two paintings fell to the ground. Rodney held me and turned to the door. There she was, Alice holding the door frame with her violet hair all over the place. “Alice!” I called and she fell to the ground. “Stop fighting.” She whispered repeatedly as she lay on the floor. I rushed to her and held her in my arms. “Ok, my dear. We have stopped.” I said. She opened her eyes and smiled. I turned to look at Rodney; his mouth was open and he was still on the floor in shock.

Justin's surprise

“Where are you?” Justin asked. I dropped my bag on my bed and turned the other ear. “I just got into my room. My second lecture was cancelled. My weekend just got started, chale.” I replied. He was quiet for a while. “Hey I have to get something to eat. Can I call you back later?” I said and hung up the phone. The fridge was so dry. I looked inside my bag and grabbed my purse. I rushed downstairs to the hostel’s provision store to buy something to eat. “Marie, are you going for the Faculty Week Fair?” Abena asked on my way back to my room. She was a close friend to my roommate. “I don’t know oh. I’m kind of broke and I don’t want to be tempted.” I replied with a wink. “Oh you should come. I heard the prices won’t be too high. My cousin is going to be there.” She added. I leaned against the stairs and smiled broadly. “Oh the designer? That’s so cool. I still remember that blue tank top we saw at her shop.” I confessed. Abena laughed out loud and I even joined her. After our little chitchat I rushed to my room. I turned on my laptop to watch a movie and changed into my favourite black shorts and a grey t-shirt. I decided to ask my brother to send me some money. Just when I picked up my phone to send him a text my boyfriend called. “Oh Justin I said I would call you right back eh? Sorry oh.” I apologized but he cut me short. “Oh it’s fine. There is a package for you at your door. Have you got it yet?” He said. My heart skipped a beat. Who doesn’t like packages. “No it hasn’t what is it? Tell me, tell me and who is bringing it?” I said immediately getting off my bed and dropping my pillow in the process. Then like magic I heard a knock at the door. I rushed to the door and opened it. “Justin!” I screamed and hugged him tight.

“You sneaky boy. You didn’t tell me you were coming!” I said when he was inside. “Then I would have spoilt the surprise.” He said with a smile. “But you never ever surprise me.” I said. “Maybe I have changed.” He said and sat right next to me. It was nice having him around, really nice.” Just before I could ask him his main purpose of stay and duration, he said he had to take a call and rushed out of the room. Minutes later Eyram came into the room. Eyram was my roommate. She called Justin her Checkmate because they both liked Chess. How lame is that? The two of them got along very well. Eyram was also reading Civil Engineering, the same thing Justin studied in Uni. “Guess who is here?” I asked her. She threw her books on the desk and shook her head. “Justin!” I yelled. “My Checkmate? Ei what a surprise. Where is he?” She said smiling. “He just stepped out to take a call.” I replied. Then Abena came in the room without knocking, as usual. She grabbed Eyram and dragged her away giggling. I’m sure it was for their usual kokonsa.

After about a whole two hours of talking about things that don’t really matter I remembered. “So are you here for work and how long are you staying?” I finally asked. “Oh can’t I come to visit my girl? Eh? Can I spend the weekend here?” He asked and kissed my cheek. I smiled and nodded. Eii my boyfriend had really changed. “Justin there is nothing in the fridge oh. Tomorrow I will go get some stuff to cook some food but for tonight dierr we have to hustle.” I said with a giggle. “Oh yes. What’s the time?” Justin said and looked at his phone. I looked at him quietly. “Marie, forget about that. Pack some clothes, we are going to lodge somewhere interesting.” He said. I looked at him, even more confused now. “I’m lodging at a hotel in town. I’m pretty sure it would be boring there alone you know.” He added after reading my expression. Is this guy for real?

Apparently he was, because I had my stuff packed up for a weekend and we left my hostel. Justin was in such a hurry. I was equally as excited. I rushed to Abena’s room to tell Eyram that I was leaving but she was in the bathroom. “Eyram, Justin and I are going out. I will call you when we get back ok?” I said aloud so she would hear. “Ei you won’t waste any time eh? Ok, but make sure you take your key. I don’t want you waking me up in the middle of the night.” She responded. I smiled. “Don’t worry, I don’t think we will come back tonight.” I said and rushed out before Abena put her kokonsa mouth in my business. This was so insanely romantic and it wasn’t even my birthday!! “Destination: the Grand Mirage Hotel.” Justin whispered in my ears. Was he kidding? That place was massive. I literally pinched myself to make sure I wasn’t dreaming; literally.

Summer date 2

Betty went on and on about Kenny now. She’s such a hypocrite, sometimes it hurts. I told her I was going with Darren for his physiotherapy session and asked if she wanted to come along. She just yelled “boring” and went to her room. I had to take two buses to get to Darren’s hospital. It was huge and was purely for physio stuff. He was sitting in the waiting room when I got here. “Hi, this place is huge. I got lost a couple of times.” I said sitting right next to him. “I didn’t think you would come. Thanks.” He said and I smiled. The nurse walked to him and helped him into the doctor’s room. I sat down waiting. Just then my phone rang. It was Kenny. “Oi you are missing out you know? The other day was wicked." He said. “Yea Ali told me all about it.” I confessed. “I got tickets for the Coldplay concert. You wanna come?” He asked. Wow I love Coldplay! “Sure, does Kenny know about it?” I asked unable to hide my excitement. You can’t blame me. I mean how many international shows had I even been to in Ghana? “No, he’s not a fan. He said he won’t go but I mean it could be just the three of us you know?” He added.

The door flung open and Kenny walked out with the nurse. “Let me get back to you ok? Later.” I said and hung up. Kenny was smiling when he looked at me. I put my phone in my bag and got up. “All done here.” He said. I smiled back and we walked out. “How are you getting back home?” I asked when we were outside. “Just the way I came. With a cab.” He said and in seconds a black cab parked in front of us. The nurse helped him in. “You might want to use the other door. I can’t really scoot over.” He teased. I giggled and went around. The nurse waved and we were off. “Ok so that was it? You were with the Doctor for just about five minutes.” I asked with interest. “Well I did my main session before you came but really it doesn’t take that long.” He explained. “So what would you like to have for lunch?” He asked.

At dinner that night my auntie was going on and on about work and how stressful it was. “Looks like I would have to bring some work home tomorrow night. Oh dear, I haven’t even finished today’s work.” She complained. “If it’s not too complicated I can help you with it.” I offered, putting a heap of mashed potatoes in my mouth. “Oh would you really?” She asked. I nodded to confirm and she seemed so relieved. Betty didn’t say a thing. She just kept on eating and typing on her Blackberry. Don’t get me wrong Betty is not a bad person, she is just vain to the highest degree. If she had a middle name it would be VANITY!

After dinner when Aunt Bella was showing me how to do her data entry Betty got dressed up and walked into the hall. “Ok so I’m going out with Kenny I won’t be long.” She said. We both turned to look at her in her short denim skirt and black leather jacket. “Are you going in that?” Aunt Bella asked. “Is that my jacket?” I also asked. “Yes and yes. So see you later. Looks like he is downstairs.” She said heading for the door. “Bet, wait a minute. I don’t really know this Kenny boy and you going out this late with him?” Auntie asked sharply. “Aunt Bella I’m not a child you know? Ok fine here is his number and address.” Betty said and wrote it down on a sticky note. “There, now please don’t sleep too deep.” She said and rushed out before our Aunt could say another word. “Don’t worry she will be fine.” I reassured and we went back to doing her work.

My cousin came back from wherever she went at about 4am. I stayed up to wait for her. I dozed off several times watching TV. She woke up in the afternoon and walked to the hall where I was sitting. “How was your date?” I asked, behind the computer. “It was awesome. Guess what car Kenny drives?” She asked. She poured a glass of orange juice and came to sit close to me. “I wouldn’t know.” I replied. She took a sip and put the glass down. “A Daddy Range. my dear. We went to some really nice pub and had some drinks oh and he was teaching me how to play pool. You really missed a lot.” She said. “Well you didn’t invite me to come did you?” I asked still typing. “You would have suggested bringing Mr. No legs so I…” She started but I cut her short. “Betty, what is wrong with you? Stop acting like that. We didn’t come here to make fun of people!” I shot at her. She just looked at me and quietly stood up. “Wow, I can’t tell a joke anymore.” She muttered and walked off to her room. I took off my reading glasses and rubbed my eyes. I didn’t mean to shout at her but that joke wasn’t funny at all.

Betty refused to talk to me the whole day. I didn’t feel like apologizing to her either. The next day Kenny came over to our place. He spoke to Aunt Bella and apologized for not coming inside the other day. Aunt Bella seemed to like him. He had a way with women in general so I wasn’t surprised. Betty was so proud of herself. Like she brought a huge piece of diamond home! Mtcheeew. When Kenny was leaving he whispered to me. “Ey, are you coming with us to the show? I could ask D to join us if you like.” I smiled at him. “No it’s fine. I’m not really a fan of Coldplay.” I lied. He shook his head and got up to leave. Darren hadn’t called me since we last met. I was kind of hoping he would. Then it hit me. He was probably thinking I just went to the hospital with him to make up for what happened the last time with Bet. I grabbed my phone and called him.

Me: Hi, I haven’t heard from you in a bit. Where have you been hiding?

Darren: Hi Ali. Been around. The doctor said I shouldn’t move around too much. Ma leg seems to be getting worse.

Me: Oh that is bad. You should stay put then. So do you have someone you live with to take care of you?

Darren: No not really but I’m fine. I’m not in a wheel chair or anything. How’s Bet?

Me: She’s fine. She just stepped out with Kenny.

Darren: Yea? Ayt then. Ali, I have got to go now. I’ll give you a ring in a bit.

Me: Ok sure. Bye.

Please don’t tell me this guy has feelings for Betty. If he did it wouldn’t just be his leg that would be broken.
