Alice 10

I really wanted to scream but I couldn't. It was as if my voice was lost. The assassin held a gun two inches away from my face. His finger was on the trigger. With the slightest bit of effort my life would be gone! He signaled for me to move inside. It happened so fast I almost couldn't believe it. Just when I turned to move I heard a loud gun shot. I fell flat on the floor with my eyes closed. I felt no pain. I opened my eyes immediately and saw the assassin bleeding in the arm. Rodney was standing close to the road with a fired gun in his hand. "Doreen, stay down!" He yelled and fired again at the assassin. This time he missed. The man crawled behind one of the huge pillars.

Rodney shot his right hand so he found it hard putting the gun in his hand. He managed to switch the gun into his left hand and fired at Rodney and missed badly. I was now lying on the floor almost in between them. I wasn't far from Rodney but I was just too afraid to do anything. "Doreen, crawl to me." Rodney said in a low tone. I tried but my arms were shaking like jelly. I tried the first time and fell on my face. I tried again immediately and crawled towards him.  I froze when I heard Alice scream. I turned around and noticed that the assassin had moved a bit further, away from the pillar he was behind. I gathered courage to stand up but Rodney yelled at me to get down. Another man was coming out of the shadows with Alice in his hand and a gun pointing to her head. He wore glasses and looked very decent. Alice's eyes were closed. Her face was expressionless.
The scene was horrifying. I was next to Rodney now. He pushed me behind him and I just stood there shivering. "What do you want?!" Rodney yelled, taking a few steps back with his gun aimed at the man. "One more shot from you and I kill the girl." He replied in a very funny accent. Then the assassin also came out, holding his gun feebly in his left hand. He had tied his wound with one sleeve of his shirt. "Look, the girl you are trying to kidnap is far more dangerous than you think." Rodney said. The man laughed quite genuinely and said. "Thank you for the information but I created her myself." I felt Rodney twitch, or was it me?
"Yes, she is a very successful experiment, well almost. I spent years trying to figure out how to control her rage issues. You see, she is a splice. We had DNA of 7 animals to make her. Clearly you didn't think she was just blessed with these abilities did you? Oh you laymen, you have no scientific bone in you at all." He said shaking his head. "You do know what DNA is right?" he teased, rolling his eyes. Rodney and I were too shocked to say a thing. "Let me give you a simple idea of what this pretty child is. We carefully selected the strongest animals, each for a specific purpose, put them together to produce the ultimate human being. I am sure you have seen her display already" he said. Alice was just standing there with her eyes closed.

Never marry

When I was younger my mother would sit me down and say to me

Never marry a doctor. He will spend so much time healing complex diseases that he would ignore your pains.

Never marry an actor. He will easily deceive you with his staged role plays.

Never marry a photographer. He will not see your beauty because he takes pictures of models everyday.

Never marry a lawyer. If he can lie to make a whole jury believe him, he will do it to you.

Never marry a business man. He will always put his money ahead of you.

She would go on and on till the list was impossible to remember. Then one day I asked. "What man should I marry then?"

She smiled and said. "Marry  a carer, a motivator, an understander, a protector and most of all a lover."

My mother was right. Don't marry a man for what he does for a living but rather marry him for who he is :)

9ty 9 in 9

My grandpa was a very old man but honestly he wasn't 9s.

He would always beat my brother and I when we did the least thing like wake up after 9.

One day my brother was so furious with the old man that he threatened him with a 9f.

My grandpa calmed down, allowed us to go and gave us a heavy beating that 9t.

We were just kids but he beat us with his cane for not one or two lashes but about 9teen.

Oh how we wished we lived in Egypt so one day we will drown him in the river 9l.

It was sad when we reported him to our parents because he would always de9.

He would charm my mother like he was some sweet little 9tingale.

Now I'm standing in front of his grave and remembering all he did and realizing how much it has shaped me  and there u have it, 9 lines about a man who lived to be 9ty 9.

Hi Stranger 3

Then like magic we both looked away at the same time. We froze for a bit and started to laugh. We were so in sync it was scary. “You have a boyfriend right?” He finally said. I nodded and he smiled. “Ok, this is pretty awkward. I’ll just lie like this. I suggest you do same.” He said and turned to face the other side. We laughed again. The tension just seemed to have disappeared. “Can I ask you something? Does your girlfriend know you are here?” I asked. “Yes she does. You don’t think I’m trying to take advantage of you, do you?” He asked, turning to face me. “No, that’s not why I’m asking. It’s my boyfriend. When I called him I heard a girl’s voice in the background and I was kind of upset.” I confessed. He tilted his head a bit showing part of his amazing ‘back head’.

“To answer your question, yes she knows I’m with a bunch of friends and some are girls. With your boyfriend right, let me ask you something. Should he doubt you?” He asked. I was almost offended until I realized what he meant. “Oh yea I get you. I just have to trust him eh?” I replied. I was lying down next to a really hot guy, why should I be upset when he does the same thing? I smiled broadly. “Hey thanks.” I said and he nodded. He smiled again. “So in order for us to remain faithful, I suggest you turn your awesomely attractive face away. Thank you.” He said and I couldn’t help laughing.

We lay there chatting, about relationships. He was giving me good advice too. He made jokes about almost everything and told me things I almost didn’t believe. He told me one thing I would never forget though. He said, “If you focus on enjoying yourself in a faithful way without your partner, it will strip you off your suspicions. Learn how to have fun on your own.” I knew he was right and even though I never saw him ever again, he gave me something that changed my relationship forever. Thank you Vincent!

Alice 9

“Alice, are you ok?” A tall lanky man said and carried her. Alice smiled and nodded. “You are her Uncle?” I asked. He hesitated and nodded. “Well not really. My ex-wife is her auntie. I’m Jack.” He finally said. “Oh ok. I guess you are the only family she has got now.” I shrugged. “So what are you going to do? It looks like this little girl isn’t safe here.” Rodney said. Jack nodded and replied. “Yes that is clear. I’m taking her to Namibia, I have family there. They could take care of her. I just wish my ex-wife was here. She is very good with her.” I felt sorry for him because I knew his ex-wife was definitely not coming back. “The Police are searching for her so once we find her; she can be with Alice again.” He added. Rodney looked at me, he knew I wanted to tell him the truth but I got the message and just nodded.

He signed all the papers he needed to and walked out with us. “Thank you for everything. I’m truly grateful. Our flight is in about two hours so we have to leave now. Thank you again.” He said at the car park. I waved at Alice and she run to me and gave me a hug. “Aren’t you coming?” She asked. I smiled at her and bent down to hug her properly. “I will come later but I need to go and get some stuff first so you two go, I’ll come visit you later ok?” I lied. She smiled and hugged me again. They got into Jack’s car and we waved at them as they drove off.

I could see Rodney was relieved. “So, you didn’t see anything weird ok? End of story.” He said when we got into the car. I rolled my eyes. “It’s kind of chilly tonight isn’t it?” I said and reached for my jacket at the back seat. “Oh, it seems a little cold but it’s not bad.” Rodney said driving off. Then I noticed the jacket we bought for Alice was still in our car. “Hurry Rodney, follow Jack.” I ordered. He turned to look at me sharply. “What, why?!” He asked with a frown. “Alice left her jacket.” I replied. “Come on Doreen. Jack can buy her a new one.” He complained. I could tell he wanted to be as far away from her as possible. The reason was quiet obvious. “Look, the man is just two cars away. Just catch up with him and flash your lights.” I shot back. Rodney had no choice. He did as I said and after driving a while we saw him pull over next to an overpass. I saw them both get out of the car and walk under the overpass. That was a bit odd. “Park here. I’ll just go alone and drop it off quickly.” I ordered and got out of the car with the jacket.

“Jack!” I called, but he didn’t hear me. The cars passing were too loud. I was quiet close now so I decided not to call anymore. His car wasn’t locked so I figured they would be back soon. I leaned on the car to wait but they weren’t coming to I decided to go towards the bridge. What were they possibly doing in that dark place? As I got closer I heard some voices. I couldn’t make out what they were saying though. I took two more steps closer. I could see two men. My heart pounded when I recognized one of them. He was the one who shot Alice’s aunty in the head, the assassin. I gasped and moved behind the wall quickly. I was confused.

Then I saw Jack rush off with a brief case. Alice wasn’t with him. He would have seen me if he just turned around. He opened the door, threw the case into the passenger seat and rushed into his own seat. When he sparked his car I thanked God he didn’t see me, things were beginning to make sense. But before I could calm down fully, there was a loud explosion and his car went up in flames. My body shook almost immediately as I watched the car burn and car parts lying around, everywhere. He was dead, just like that. Just like his ex-wife. I managed to gather some courage to run away and I thought about Alice. I turned around to see if she was ok and saw a gun in my face! I looked up to see who it was, shivering. “We meet again. What a small world.” The assassin said with a grin on his face.
